History is a funny area to begin beginnings /
Pasts before present before futures . . .
All things exist before their existence and this existence is often lost in the paranoid glare and the chase of now and the random ideas of un-predictable futures.
Mechanical Air began . . .
Some time way back when it was 12
Not 13
Before the 20
following an invitation to submit an idea for a new composition for 8 channel composition for flautist Gavin Osborn.
Gav O or
O
as he has become known in our
extended relationship have been collaborating for a number of years /
exchanging and changing ideas
Opening up a discourse of reason and
non
reason
A discourse of ideas that round nicely on the belief that it all
could just be a little bit better
Richer and Varied
Yes Life
and
Yes Art
That ideas could and do change our perceptions /
That there are more ways to skin a cat
That tradition has a place but it should not become an anchor weighing our imaginations down
That ideas ca grow from a multiple of locations
That part of our cultural history has been cleansed and under mined . . .
Of course this is my Blog and possibly
O
may or may not agree or disagree . . .
This is my blog
With
in
reason it outlines why I am engaging with Mechanical Air /
and why I am working with O
On a manifestation of ideas that O finds engaging enough to engage with me . . .
and the development of The Hyper - Graphic Score
A form of notation / composition / scoring / mapping / seeing direction and experiencing rhythm and texture in the alteration of writing
It is not a challenge
a challenge to what
it is an alternative
a possible questioning of what is traditionally enforced and agreed up
on
It is an approach that has a long line of reason and is a tradition within its own right
To question and to except other models of thinking and excited to share and engage with
Possibly opposing modes of thought and beliefs and actions and behaviour
Being curious does not kill no cats . . .
The Hyper - Graphic Score responds to a
need to locate ourselves somewhere in open unknown
s p a c e
There are no final frontiers
A Visual engagement with eye and brain and body and breath and noise and voice
The shaping and orchestration of ideas and the employment of self discovered languages that one needs to share and engage . . . with
In order to get with
in
communication
The Hyper - Graphic Score is a language i can invent in order to
enable me
to locate myself in the un-know
The Hyper - Graphic score is a celebration of the unknown
it enters the unknown with glee knowing the unknown is part of knowing
The known
The known possibly being what has been before
The Hyper - Graphic Score enables for a private language of expression to
Express itself creatively - - - -
The Hyper - Graphic requests the question
"What it that?"
The Question
"How do I read that, translate this, engage with this, communicate, understand, locate myself with and within this that is present . . .
It potentially enables people to engage in a discourse, a dialogue a conversation /
It enables for a process of negotiation /
To ask 'what if' and respond with 'why not'.
It enables for a series of combinational actions / re-actions / responses /
It is multi - lingual offering the potential for combining forms and disciplines together
That may normally remain apart, separated, segregated, removed from one another . . .
the classic from the avant-garde

The Hyper - Graphic Score is not an isolated flippant suggestion as a form of notation / composition / writing -
It is part of a sustained tradition of ideas that sustain our need and liberty to invent, question and develop ourselves.

Regarding a planet that
Is not flat
It explores the notion that we are always in flight
That we are perpetually passing through spherical forms of liquid as one of the the four fundamental states of matter
(the others being solid, gas, and plasma), liquid as a molecular structure of air - it is not a solid and allows us to pass through
This may not be true . . . it maybe scientifically correct or incorrect - it maybe right and it maybe very Wrong . . .
I do not care
I see it as true
As an ever decreasing series of spherical forms turning in space on a spherical form - the planet and to the planet I want to look at and review our perceptual shift of ideas - of location when in 1968 we saw / witnessed our location within a universe - revolving in deep space - Earthrise, captured by Bill Anders in December 1968 as the spacecraft accelerated away from the Earth, the picture was immediately captivating and changed our reality and perception of location - a fragile suspended orb, shrouded in a thin blue line - the atmosphere.
Mechanical Air is a search to locate ourselves within a society driving hard within mechanistic principles and we are searching for a possible language that enables for a perceptual change -
We are searching and come across such language as
Rusty Schweickart's speech, later turned into an essay entitled "No Frames, No Boundaries".
Schweickart was an astronaut on Apollo 9 and following his experience in space responded with the text 'No Frames. No Boundaries' -
Mechanical Air engages with the dichotomy of a perpetual desire for flight /
To experience a freedom from gravity
To experience a freedom / from the

For us to fly
For us to leave this surface earth
For us to leave gravities pull
For us to fly

It maybe non scientific
It maybe not true and wrong
But I am not in the business of right and wrong
I am elsewhere more
a location of it could be
of I don't know
of I'm asking questions
Mechanical Air is an attempt to re-locate
Locate a re-locational
position
To generate a location of questions and enquiry . . .
